let's knife!

way back when, all the way to 8th grade i believe, i first learned about shonen knife. two friends at camp were talking about them, and i was told they were my kinda band, with songs about eating choco bars and being lazy and big fat cats. i was a bit on the fence, but i decided to check them out. a few months late i was in a newbury comics in boston (for those who dont know what i newbury comics is, its a chain of stores in new england that sells new and used cds, books, comics, toys, crap, and anything else they feel like, they are alot of fun) with a friend, and i found in the rock section a few shonen knife cds. the one with the most songs on it, the birds and the b-sides, a b-side and rariety album found its way to my hands with curiousity and excitement. i dont know what to expect really. i only new of japanese music through anime, and i was just starting to learn about music in general. when i finally got home after train rides and comics and video game adventures, i put the new cd in the player and heard a cover of the old motown song, heatwave (love is like a) and went wide eyed with awe. i hadnt ever heard anything so fun, lo-fi or awesome (except for the ramones which me and the same friend discovered the previous summer) the rest of the cd didnt really grow on me for a while until i bought later cds, and with good reason, it was a b-sides collection, not an intended hooking album, unlike rock animals, happy hour or brand new knife. years past and college finally arrived. i was a sophmore at my old college outside boston, and the same friend from past adventures had learned about the one and only shonen knife was playing in the city in a few days. it was febuary, cold as fuck, and i had yet to get a ticket as a small group of us left for the show. it was in a small venue and it sold out, heart broken, one of the members of our expedition gave me his ticket after explaining he had only heard one of there songs before. i was saved! after some random crap band, three japanese girls, who were all in there 40's but didnt look it, got on stage and ROCKED. speaking in broken english and singing in both english and japanese, they hopped, screamed, jammed, and kicked total ass. we were blown away. they even played a ramones cover, at which point we learned they were honorary ramones (it all comes full circle). after the show, they talked to every fan with smiles and thank yous. they seemed genuinely happy to see me and my friends and autographed everything i had on me.
now its almost three years later. i was sittting my studio in the library building when an old instructor of mine comes a knockin. i was showing him my work when he noticed my signed shonen knife poster proudly hanging on the wall. he informed me they were playing soon some were, and i should go see them. i freaked out all over again. low and behold, there they were, at the blender theater. a block away. even better. but before i bought my tickets i figured i take a shot in the dark and see i could get free ticket via my radio station connections. and bam! not only did i get a ticket, but i get 4 pairs of tickets. after a fun and unexciting giveaway the tickets were handed out and ready for the show. the day of the show arrives and me and my girlfriend head to the show. a quick bite to eat and i phone call from a fellow station buddy, "they're on right now!" crap! i shove sandwich in mouth and run arcoss the street, we get out tickets and walk into the venue, japanese girls ready and rocking out. while it was still a small crowd, it was still way too exciting. we locate friends and dance in our places to songs about sushi, rocket ships and super hero girls. and it was amazing, all members played brilliantly, and yet it seemed completely second nature and unusually easy. after a pretty short set, they did two encore songs and left. i didnt see a merch table and was let down. the bounces started to kick us out and told us we could go down stairs to the lounge bar. on a hope i figured i could ask the girls to sign the poster i made for thier show. we get down stairs and theres the merch table and the band. the same scene of a small yet mightly group of odd fans vcrowd around for autographs and handshakes, and i do the same. i show them the poster and after a few seconds they understand what i said and smiled and called it really cute and signed it happily. after cds and autographs and fan-boyness, i was content to leave, unsure if and when i will be able to rock out again. we then hop over to the grand saloon, on the way of out one block walk home to meet friends. and thus, completing my fanboy freak out.

a very big deal!

so, this is a super big deal for me.
the very first ska band i ever heard, The Agents, who broke up years apon years ago, are getting back together for a few shows and maybe even a new album. i learned about this about a month or two ago, and was upset that all the shows they were playing were when i wasnt home. until now. i just learned they are playing a show the day after thanksgiving at the living room (a super shitty venue in providence that for some reason good bands play at) i think i might shit my pants. the agents were and still are one of my most favorite bands of all time. even though they were a small local ska band, they actually had talent. they blended (and i hate using that word to describe music) a latin salsa jazzy sound with traditional ska and a 2 tone punk back beat. and they made it work with out sounding like a terrible jam band that thinks ska is a funny joke to play around with, nor were they a high school line of future assholes who dont actually like music. they were actually pretty good! what a rarity for a small local band.
so the last time i saw them was high school. im pretty sure the last show they did was when i was a senior in high school. so its been about 4-5 years since i last saw them, and thought i would never see them agian. any ways, this show will be some serisous fun. i can finally drink with my buddies, i can drive with ease, and i can see one of my favorite bands i thought id never see again.

The molten to desire

THE DIRTBOMBS!
there are only a few of my all time favorite bands that are still together that i have yet to see live, Anamanaguchi, Dillinger Four, this bike is a pipe bomb, akiakane (what is now softball) and until a few weeks ago, the dirtbombs. and finally! on a super rainy friday in Brooklyn, i was able to fulfill my dream of witnessing them live.
my friend will introduced me to them about a year and a half, 2 years ago, and at first i really liked them (like i do with most good bands) but i never stopped liking them, nor did i stop listening to them. there was no sudden realization that i loved them, or some amazing explosion when i first heard them, none of that. but something more lasting, more important, i never got tired of them. and thus, my love was cemented.

the only problem with me loving the dirtbombs is that they never leave their hometown, Detroit. (the same with dillinger four never leaving the mid-west, or akiakane never leaving japan). but hark! what is that in the distance of CMJ music fest? the dirtbombs three days in a row! they played the mercury lounge, southpaw and then Maxwell's. mercury lounge is right in the city, so i of course intended to try to get in, southpaw in brooklyn, and Maxwell's in jersey, i.e. out of the question too far. the mercury lounge sold out, so tickets purchased to ensure my entrance. i then called my buddy will to see if he wanted to go (he had luckily seen them before) and of course he did! so another ticket bought. we hike down there in the cold rain, find the place and enter the venue. after we are standing around for a few moments we realize we are the youngest people there (me 22 and will 23) im not sure why but the bulk of fans of the dirtbombs are much older. shrugs. the first band, the turbo fruits were pretty impressive. three guys (i believe all gay) and they rocked in a way similar to ted leo if he was divided amongst three younger people from brooklyn. the next band, the intelligence was weird but ok, didn't pay attention. the curtains closed and then they start setting up. the audience was able to be catch a glimpse of Mick Collins, the Dirtbombs front man setting up stuff. then the curtains open, and the crowd of mid 30 years olds and me and my friend go nuts.
with two drummers, two basses and a mean lead guitar, they opened with the back sabbaths war pigs. they then rocked the majority of their songs from their albums ultraglide in black, dangerous magical noise, and the collection cd if you dont already have a look. they played a much need revival of motor city rock and soul. their sound is that of the old garage rock bands, mixed with a rugged soul group from the 60's mixed with a british rock'n'roll band. and they preformed their asses off. after an amazing set, they came back on for two more encore songs, and the officially ran off into the darkness.

and that was my my best cmj moment this year, awesome.

Operation cleanup

Now I know this is not really all that important and isn't really MUSIC NEWS but it's WSVA news and it's been quite some time since anyone has updated anything. So we are now cleaning up the station and orgainizing it so I thought I would post a few of the sticket designs so far designed they may change over time but this is what we're going with for right now. It's mostly Andrews project but we're all getting in on it

Oh Carrie Carrie

For all my fellow Sleater-Kinney fans, still not completely over the now 1 year old break up of said band, I offer you this update....

Sadly no, my update does not involve news of a reunion. It does however involve the one and only Carrie Brownstein, beloved guitar goddess of punk rock. For most of this last year Carrie remained under the radar, not making much of any public appearences, only instead a handful of articles and interviews for various publications. But now shes starting to show her face more often. Most notably in the newly minted web-based sketch comedy show ThunderAnt. ThunderAnt consists of Ms. Brownstein and her good friend Fred Armisen. So far there are two official ThunderAnt episodes and an older collaboration originally titled Boink!

Personally I find them pretty funny, if not always dead on hilarious, but theyre getting better with each passing episode and Carrie's timing is pretty top notch. Also be sure to notice the ThunderAnt theme song which was composed by Carrie and thats her on keyboard with Fred on drums. So go check it out!
And for more random Carrie-ness heres a video that seems to be at a humane society volunteers meeting in portland where Carrie had to give some sort of introduction about herself and wound up singing the orowheat jingle. HILARIOUS!!!

Structure and Cosmetics

Ahh, what the hell, I keep inadvertantly abandoning this thing. The past few weeks have been busy though, first I was in colorado, then I wasnt, then I had RA training and work and bladdy bladdy boring. Anyways, now that the school year is officially starting up and I am soon to be reunited with my station co-horts regular posting is sure to follow. I've missed posting about quite a few things in the last few weeks so most likely I'll be attempting to do some catch up work for a little while.

So, with that, one of my favorite bands The Brunettes, a great and enthusiastic pop group from new zealand just released a new album called "Structure and Costmetics", and is the bands first release on american label Sub Pop. In my effort to wait to purchase the album on vinyl I hadnt gotten to hear it until yesterday but hot damn is it good! The first song is infectious as hell and brought back memories of when I saw them in Denver a few years ago with Feist and Rilo Kiley. Speaking of, in my efforts to find a post worthy video of the Brunettes, I stumbled upon a clip of said three bands covering "Let My Love Open The Door" which was also a good memory from that night. Enjoy:

In summation its a great band with a wonderful sense of melody and you should give them a try if you havent already. yea. oh and if anyone happens to know whether or not this album is actually on vinyl please let me know cuz I would love to have it!

Harmony Baking in the Sun

Have you ever sat/stood in the sun for 8 hours+ and listened to live music? Then how can you consider yourself a DIE HARD fan...I know some of you are thinking..."I never said i was a DIE HARD spinmaster" and to those I say "oh ok then...I apologize" Folks let me tell you about some of the things I saw. I saw nonstop music in front of my very own eyes and not only from where I sat. I saw it from around the world SIMULTANEOUSLY.

A performer would end their 20 min set...and as the stage would revolve to reveal a whole new set of equipment we would be shown a performance happening in London, Australia, or Beijing. I have to say I found myself at times...dare I say it...Overwhelmed. I could not believe that there was all this music Going on. The show kicked off in Australia at about 9:30 PM in the US on July 6th. And it was a revolution that the world really needed. I'm not sure how many people were really affected by the performances. I don't know how many people will change the error of their ways. The american Public I know doesn't really like to listen to anything. So we'll see what happens in the course of the next three years.

Anyways back to the music. I must say I have never seen the likes and varieties that were on stage in front of me before. There was easily something for everyone. KT TUNSTALL opened for the NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY crowd. She carried herself very well I thought not easy opening first in-front of giants stadium sized crowd. From what I remember TAKING BACK SUNDAY was the next to perform and they unfortunately played all new tracks. Which was a little disappointing but in an effort to save the world it's all about the HITS! No matter how long a history you have people will only respond to you if they can hear you on the radio. KEITH URBAN certainly surprised me, with his cover of GIMME SHELTER. It was a duet with Alicia Keys and wouldn't be the ONLY time in the WORLD that the song would be covered. Because we were shown a DUET from africa later in the day by ANGELIQUE KIDJO and JOSS STONE. Which was definitely more soulful and had some real authentic african flavor to it. Both renditions were amazing and did the stones proud but the New York version had the pace that really livened up the crowd. Even with the likes of AKON and LUDACRIS that followed I was more or less satisfied with. I found myself entranced with everything they had to say and do. I wasn't necessarily blown away but nor was I ready to throw my bag of tomatos...that I...somehow got through securtity....I just told em it was an ongoing compost pile and to NOT LET ME IN with them they'd be killing the earth "YOU DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONE THAT DESTROYS THE EARTH DO YOU?" Boy did they back down...imagine that on your resume. "the guy who destroyed the earth"

Wow anyways it was time for some alternative acts. So instead of spreading them out and giving them their own time and place they squeezed them and put em back to back. AFI was strong Davey Havok's Vocals had never sounded better. While wearing pants that he painted on he proclaimed his ideals and things he's been doing to save the world. Telling us that he has been a veagan for about 10 years now. GOOD FO HIM. FALL OUT BOY who I was surprised to see on the bill and also more surprised all their 14 year old fans were able to afford to $50+ tickets. Anyways Pete Wentz had his classic effort to try and steal the show yet realized he probably couldn't so decided to do some self conscious speeches saying "We'll just get out of your way...and we'll make it quick" Clearly he felt the tension of performing in front of the world. I would be a little nervous too if this band of my came from nothing and has evolved into a cultural teen popper phenomenon WHICH SEEMS like overnight, but the boys in Fall out boy definitely did their homework and put in the many sleepless nights that make up ROCK AND ROLL.

Now my order's gonna get a little funky here because I'm not quite sure who came out next but I think it was John Mayer who played a pretty motivational set. And provided us with faces of shock and horror as he twanked around on his rattle-trap guitar. I'll admit he can play, and he seems like a nice guy. BUT MARK MY WORDS I will NEVER PURCHASE AN ALBUM...he was good listen to his music folks. MELISSA ETHERIDGE I feel came out next and provided the WORLD with her tribute song that came with the movie AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. This might have been the defining moment of the day. That really channeled everybody's INNER HIPPIE she had a good half hour set it seemed that dragged on for way to long full of speeches and spoken word that easily motivated and tied together the whole reason why we were there. And was the only person to make use of the BIG BAR of WIDESCREEN TV's in the center of the stage to provide lyrics for the whole crowd...because lets be honest none of us know and Melissa Etheridge songs...unless you consider the chorus to "Come to my window" a song.

Favorite Things: Blood Red Shoes!

A month and no updates, what the hell is wrong with me?! Well, I have just the thing to make it up to you I swear. Laura-Mary from Blood Red Shoes' Favorite Things. Hailing from Brighton, England this intrepid twosome, comprised of Steven Ansell and Laura-Mary Carter has created some of what I humbly feel to be the best rock music in recent memory. I had the distinct honor of seeing them live the other week at the Highline Ballroom, in what I'm about 90% sure was their first stateside show. Sorry to sound like just another run of the mill music writer. I really do love them a lot though. They have that ineffable spark of whatever the hell it is that makes me shut up and take notice and/or start dancing. Speaking of dancing that is exactly what the crowd at that show didn't seem to want to do much of. But screw them, I'll post a clip of the show at the end of this post so you can see just why not dancing, or in some other way moving around, was a knuckle-head decision. And without further ado, here are Laura-Mary's responses to our little questionnaire (and as a side note she chose not to answer all the questions as everyone this is sent to is welcome to do)....

You cant see Steven very well, but I'm rather impressed I was able to find a video of it at all. Appréciez.

Favorite Things Rewind: Mates of State

So this is a pulled article from an old "Static" issue that appears to be from Nov/Dec 2003 (I say appears because apparently they weren't into dating things back then at the station). At any rate they somehow managed to get replies from both Kori and Jason of Mates of State. The questions are written exactly as they were in the old zine, and without my updates and modifications, which also explains errors in grammar like "fictitious character" but ahh well. With that, keep in mind that both Kori and Jasons answers are circa 3+ years ago and will likely have changed somewhat since then.

Irving Plaza: Electrelane and The Blow

Greetings and salutations from Boulder, Colorado. I'm back home visiting family and as my car doesnt work and I am stuck in the house, so I decided I should get some blogging done. I'm starting to realize I think about blogging alot more than I actually post them. On the plane ride here I was editing blog posts in my head that I had been meaning to post for days. So, now I'm trying to remedy this.

Tuesday night was the Electrelane and The Blow show that I kept talking about. I thought I was an Electrelane fan before but now Im a total convert. They were better than I ever would have expected live. And, can I just say, I have never in my life seen a girl look more f#$!ing bad ass in a dress than lead guitarist Mia Clarke. Hard as I tried I couldn't come up with a pic to illustrate exactly what I mean. But here's a shot of her last year wearing a Ramones shirt... just as good. Choice in clothing aside, Clarke's guitar prowess really surprised me. Mind you I knew the band was good but I wasn't expecting to leave the show with another guitar hero. Whether it be delivering a deliciously clever and complicated riff, banging the guitar into her amp to create feedback noise, or coaxing it into a madcap run of scratches and wails, she did not for a second crack that calm exterior you see above. Which of course made the bad-assery all the more awesome. And yes, I did just say bad-assery. Verity Susman also impressed me with her multi-instrumental talents. She seemed just as comfortable behind the guitar as she did the keyboard and approached them both with a sort of barely contained ferocity. She was especially impressive behind the keyboard durring the first few songs, and I couldnt tell whether to look at her or Clarke.

Khaela Maricich of The Blow, was also a force to behold as she preformed without her recording partner Jona Bechtolt. It takes serious nerve to get up on stage by yourself without even an instrument to hide behind and entertain a group of people not necissarily there to see you. But of course, that is exactly what she did. She was funny, exuberantly quirky, and never stopped moving. She was so good in fact I almost really just dont know what to say. So instead here's a clip of the genius at work from a show in seattle earlier this year.

In my search for more info I came across this really good article about the blow from Fader magazine, that contains some really nice photos (like this one) of the band taken by Jason Nocito. Jason Nocito. So check that out.

In summation the only thing missing from the evening was our dear Tender Forever. Seems to me that would have made it a perfect concert. But we can't have it all and it was DAMN good anyway. Also I promise to start ranting about more than just these four bands. Really I do.

Favorite Things: Tender Forever

Once upon a time WSVA had a zine. It was a paper zine, yknow... old skool. It was called Static. Xzyqunity basically is Static only with a cooler, more original name that has nothing to do with WNYU and is, of course, on the web. At any rate Static, it was recently discovered, used to have a feature called "Favorite Things" which was basically a short list of questions, "the kind of list that would be fun to read but not take up too much of their busy rockin' lives or scare them off." We've decided this was a brilliant idea and have begun to send out bands a slightly updated version of the original questionnaire. I'll be posting the reply's as I get them and possibly adding a few of the old ones cuz they can be really interesting.

So I'm really excited, cuz the very first response is from Tender Forever! (whom I have previously ranted and raved about)
Heres what she had to say....

Band: I LOVE CODY CHESNUTT!!!

Book: i started recently to read Middle Sex. I kind of want to say that it is my favorite one, like everything i do at the moment is better than what i was doing one month ago, you know what i'm saying?

Movie: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) by Steven Spielberg / Freaks (1932) byy Tod Browning

Color: i'm always looking for things that are not appearing natural. Surprising things. I guess the surprising colors are the NEON ones. Totally unnatural, abusive of your eyes but magical. I LOVE THEM.

Animal: my best friend Valerie. She has a band called Squeeze Me i Squeak. She is a tiny mouse. She is my favourite.

Artist: I love anyone that can take me out of reality. Anyone.

Poet: Calvin Johnson.

President/Prime Minister/ Royal Family member: It's hard to choose a favorite politician. They are not something i could ever make up my mind about. But if there was one it'd be Segolene Royal.

Food: cheese, cheese, cheese

Phobia: loneliness, no man's land

Song of the moment: Ain't got no / I got life of Nina Simone.

Song of your own: MAKE OUT

Word: "Enormément"

Place: Olympia, Washington / Sevilla, Spain / Bordeaux, France.

Venue: I love playing in unusual places. I think my favorite was the museum of communication in Charleston, South Carolina. It was amazing to play in the middle of old HUGE videos cameras and holograms and first jukeboxes.

Number: Billions.

Musical Term: When you're on tour, you hear so many of them that sometimes it gets hilarious to think back on what you said. Every sentence pronounced in the venue at soundcheck is surrealist. Also all the vocabulary that labels use, or booking agent or who ever is involved is supernatural. My personal favorite one is "JAM SISTER!"

One hit wonder (song): Women eye, "no" by Why?

Childhood toys: wood sticks, mud, plastic boots, motor oil, ponds, my brothers, my boyfriends and a frog.

Quote: "we never know" Calvin and i on tour in our van.

No Shouts, No Calls

Ok so clearly I have so far failed at getting my cohorts to start posting. Matt (aka SpinMaster) has been freaking out about the new Arctic Monkeys so with any luck I can get him to put some of his excitement into a blog post form. Heres hoping.

I on the other hand am flipping out about the new Electrelane album "No Shouts, No Calls" Which finally hit American shores today. So, admitedly, I'm a little late to the party on this one. I mean sure I got this album early but it is, in truth, my first Electrelane album. That being said I cannot currently speak to this album's place in their discography and history or growth as a band. I will say that after hearing this album all I want is more more more. So naturally a rapid devouring of their previous releases is soon to come.

I have become totally enthralled with "No Shouts No Calls". Its songs span a broad range of styles and topics yet they all sound part of a larger whole. They fit. There's a lot of play with melody and tempo, especially in the instrumental tracks. Songs will start out fast, suddenly get slower and then gradually speed back up. It's not that electrelane is seeking to break standard music theory rules, more that they are seeking to experiment with the limits of a pop song. See what it can bear. The songs are also amazingly dynamic in their tone, and almost all can be interperated as either melencholy or hopeful, depending on their mood of the listener. I tend not to read other peoples reviews of albums so I don't really know if what I'm saying is the general consensus or not, and really I don't care, because this album to me speaks of lovers being seperated, of the places in-between motion and stillness, migration and home. Add to that skillful musicianship and wonderfully haunting and ethereal voices and you have yourself a damn good record. At least I think so.

For more Electrelane info checkout their website. And if you want to see them live they are playing next tuesday, the 15th, with The Blow and hopefully Tender Forever.

J'adore

As promised I have returned. This time I bring you a taste of my latest musical crush Tender Forever. I could not possibly be more in love, and this video is just further proof of why. This track is off her last album "The Soft and The Hardcore" produced by Calvin Johnson and released on K Records, naturally. Shes been recording a new one which I believe is supposed to be released at some point this year. But to make a long music rant short all you really need to know is that shes quirky, cute, french and amazingly talented. What more could you possibly want? a lo-fi asthetic and sound you say? Check! She's got it in spades.

Here's the video for "The Magic of the Crashing Stars"

P.S. Shes playing Irving Plaza on the 15th with Electrelane and The Blow so hit that up if youre in town.

New Music Recap pt.1

Alright so first off, appologies for the lack of updates. We started this blog right before each and every member of the WSVA staff got slammed with portfolio's/finals. So we've been a little neglectful. Also, as I write this we are one school day away from the end of term, so odds are posting will be sporatic throughout the rest of the summer and I could very well be the only one writting entries. I'll try not to let that happen cuz as much fun as I am and all, this is supposed to be a collective effort and my musical tastes do not fully reflect the diversity of the staff as a whole. 5 music geeks are better than one. In fact one of our staffers is currently at Cochella and I'll try to get her to post a review when she gets back.

In other news!... there is a shit ton of amazing music out there right now. Like really. I'm having a hard time keeping up...

I'm still processing the amazingness that is Feists new album "The Reminder" (which comes out stateside on tuesday) once I've had a bit more time with it I'll post a proper review. I can however say that it just might be better than "Let It Die" a feat not to be taken lightly. And to satisfy any Feist cravings before the album is released there are two extreamly awesome music videos which i present for your viewing pleasure: one for My Moon My Man and another for 1234, both videos live up to the new Feist standard of dancing. Who doesnt love a good group dance number. I mean really.

Patti Smith's album of cover songs "Twelve" is pretty good and surprisingly roots-y for the pioneering pre-punk rocker. I am however, still currently undecided about this album as a whole. While there are a few good covers on the album, most of the tracks dont stray very far from their original versions other than the obvious instrument differences. Her version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a pretty good example in that it starts out as a REALLY amazing cover, but the second she hits the chorus it becomes patti smith singing nirvana. Maybe thats just a supremely hard song to cover because it is so recognizable, but while she plays with the original melody in the verses, there is no attempt made to do so durring the oh-so-familiar chorus, and is true of most songs on the album. A statement made worse by the fact that Patti Smith is known for amazing and revolutionary covers, one need not look any further than "Gloria" off her iconic "Horses" for proof of that. As such this album falls a little short and probably wont get a huge heaping amount of spins, at least from me. Then again I could completely change my mind like tomorrow, so who the hell knows. For a more in depth review head on over to Pop Matters.

This post is becoming obscenely long and theres still so much to talk about, including: The New Bloods, Old Haunts, The Fucking Ocean, Electrelane, Barr, Laura Veirs and all the other things im currently forgetting. But fear not, posting will recommence soon, possibly even later today. I'm a music junkie, what can I say.

Stay Tuned.

In The Begining.....

Welcome to the birth of the newly revised, revisted and well down right new WSVA zine we lovingly call Xzyqunity (zic-you-ni-tee). Why you ask? why such a strange and lengthy name sure to cause confusion and teasing on the playground? surely your concerned for our new little kid, dont want it to get too harsh a punishment from other baby zines who just dont understand. Well first off, we here at WSVA thank you for your concern of our hatchling. Secondly, and more to the point, it comes from a very long story that was once relayed to me about a lonely day at the station. The staff was feeling particularly literary (or illiterate, you chose) and after a long discusion of wordly deeds, peace on earth and good will towards the thing we call song, it was decided that our blog must have a name encompasing both our undying love of music and our grandious ideals of unity. Thus, somehow, Xzyquinty was formed. still fuzzy on it? well dont strain your brain too hard. Instead, sit back, and enjoy the random music oriented ramblings of your trusty WSVA staffers.
Thank you, and goodnight.
